==Early life==
John Nejedly was born in Oakland, CA in 1914 and was raised there while attending public schools. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and went on to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

In 1938, he purchased a parcel of hillside land in the then-unincorporated area of Walnut Creek, CA, which in 1946 would become his lifelong home.
